The caption on a companion picture stated: "One more dream of science has been realised. Man's vision has spanned the Ocean, and transatlantic television has been demonstrated to be a reality. A man and a woman sat before an electric eye in a London laboratory last night, and a group of people in a darkened basement in the village of Hartsdale, New York, watched them turn their heads and move from side to side. The images were crude and broken, but they were images nevertheless."

Sugar ship1100 viewsThe 8,325 ton Greek cargo ship Captayannis lying on a sandbank near to Ardmore Point. On the evening of January 27 1974 the area suffered from a terrific storm which blew the vessel from its anchor and caused it to collide with the BP tanker British Light. The anchor chains of the tanker holed the sugar boat, allowing water to pour into her, so she was beached in the shallow waters over the sandbank. The producer was Jess Baxter, and the hall was filled to capacity on each night of the three night run.

Shandon Hydro1098 viewsA card advertising the delights of Shandon Hydropathic Hotel, noted as being in North Britain, pictured as a steamer goes past in the Gareloch. Originally West Shandon, this magnificent building was the home of Robert Napier, the greatest figure in Clyde shipbuilding and marine engineering in the mid-19th century. During World War One the Hydro became a hospital, and in World War Two it was used by the army. In 1951 it became a hotel again, but in 1957 it was closed and demolished.

Cardross Roll of Honour1098 viewsThis memorial to the village fallen of World War One was unveiled by David Murray of Moorepark and dedicated by the Rev William Maxwell in the old Cardross Parish Church on September 26 1920. Some 200 young men went from the Parish to take part in the military operations, and of these 31 lost their lives.
