Waverley at Craigendoran1149 viewsBuilt by A. & J.Inglis at Pointhouse, Glasgow in 1946, the 693-ton Waverley entered service in 1947 and is the world's last sea-going paddler. She replaced the previous Waverley, built in 1899 and sunk at Dunkirk in 1940, andcruised to all parts of the Clyde Estuary until withdrawn after the 1973 season by Caledonian-MacBrayne. Next year she was sold to the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society and re-entered service in 1975 with support from local authorities. She is pictured at Craigendoran pier in 1972.

Some of the boats are the town's old jollyboats, which used to be laid up beside the East Esplanade.

Sailing ship Helensburgh1147 viewsThe three masted iron full-rigged ship named Helensburgh, a fine main skysail yarder, was built by Robert Duncan of Port Glasgow in 1883 for Thom & Cameron of Glasgow, but in 1906 they sold her to a Norwegian, M.H.Bruusgaard of Drammen, who renamed her Marita. During World War One she was stopped and sunk on April 23 1917 by a German submarine, U-82, about 110 miles west of St Kilda while on passage from Buenos Aires to Aarhus with a cargo of grain.
