Cairndhu carving1354 viewsA carving above a window at the former Cairndhu Hotel, later a nursing home for the elderly and now disused and boarded up. This wishing well was known as the Hermit's Well, and it was said that he granted a wish to those who drank from the copper ladle inside. It exists to this day, but is in a very poor state. The image, date unknown, is from the collection of William Orr of Rhu, who was at one time the Burgh Engineer before becoming the Assistant Engineer for Argyllshire, and it was supplied by his great nephew, Alistair Quinlan.
