THE ever-active Arrochar, Tarbet and Ardlui Heritage Group has just published an excellent World War One commemoration booklet.
It includes profiles of villagers known to have died in the ‘Great War’ and gives a glimpse of village life at the time.
Group convener Mary Haggarty said: “It took a few months to gather the information. I found myself getting very involved — it was so interesting to find out about these people’s lives.
“It was like piecing together a jigsaw, but you are dealing with real people’s lives so it can be emotional. What I found most surprising was how young these men were.”
Arrochar Primary School also took part in the project, looking at the school log to find out what life was like a century ago.
The picture shows Arrochar volunteer soldiers who went to war.
