Photographer in uniform1262 viewsKeen Helensburgh photographer Robert Thorburn is the man in front in this presumably World War One group picture. A grocery shop manager, he moved to Helensburgh before 1900, and lived at 24 East Princes Street on March 2 1900 when he married Christina Graham, of 29 James Street. His age at the time of his marriage was given as 27, and he lived in Helensburgh until his death in 1945.

Champion golfer1262 viewsCharlie Green of the Cardross club pictured at the club prizegiving in 1972. He went on to become Scottish amateur champion, Walker Cup player, selector and captain, and British senior champion — and to this day is still a very competitive amateur golfer.

Kilmahew Castle1262 viewsKilmahew Castle at Cardross was built on land granted to the Napier family by Malcolm, the Earl of Lennox, around 1290. The castle, originally a four-storey 16th century tower house, was built in the 16th century by the Napiers, who owned it until 1820. The estate had to be sold to pay off the last Laird's gambling debts. The ruins were acquired by the Archdiocese of Glasgow, with the surrounding estate, in 1948, and the now derelict St Peter's Priests Training College was built nearby.
