Ardgartan Youth Hostel1154 viewsArdgartan Youth Hostel, three miles from Arrochar on the west side of Loch Long, is seen with the Cobbler in the background. The Scottish Youth Hostels Association obtained the hostel, which sleeps over 100, from the King George's Jubilee Trust, which purchased it in 1936. Originally Ardgartan House, a private mansion built by Campbell of Strachur, it was closed in 1968, and replaced with a more modern building. Image date unknown.

Camis Eskan, circa 18401153 viewsThis painting by John Knox (1778-1845) shows the sons of Colin Campbell of Colgrain standing around the ice house above Camis Eskan. He bought the estate in 1836 from James Dennistoun, the last of the Dennistouns of Colgrain, whose family had owned the land for over 500 years. The Dennistouns were granted the lands by the first Stuart king Robert II, who had married into the family, and whose son Robert III and all future Kings would have Dennistoun blood in their veins.

“Garelochhead” by James Wright1153 viewsThis oil painting of the village as it was almost 100 years ago by James Wright (1885–1947) was acquired by the Anderson Trust in 2009. The artist, who lived for a time in Garelochhead, was a friend of the well known artist, James Kay (1858–1942) who designed the house Crimea on a hill at Whistlefield, overlooking Loch Long.
