Rhu Parish Church958 viewsA 1906 image of Row (now Rhu) Parish Church, 26 years after its first organ was installed. The Parish of Row, including Helensburgh, was created in 1648 from lands belonging to the ancient parishes of Cardross and Rosneath, and the church was completed the following year. William Spence designed the pinnacled octagonal tower which was added in 1851.

Portrait mystery958 viewsSir James Guthrie (1859-1930), who lived much of his life at Rhu and Helensburgh and was the leader of the now famous Glasgow Boys, painted this portrait of a young girl. Art collector Jim Smith from Blantyre owns the 24 x 18s ins charcoal and crayon drawing, and would love to know who the young lady subject was.

To Pastures New957 viewsThis is considered to be one of the finest works of Sir James Guthrie (1859-1930), who lived much of his life at Rhu and Helensburgh and was the leader of the now famous Glasgow Boys. Painted in the summer of 1883 in Crowland, a small and picturesque village in Lincolnshire, it was completed in Helensburgh over the winter.

Jack Buchanan953 viewsThis cartoon of Helensburgh-born Jack Buchanan, the international entertainer and Hollywood film star, was the work of Kilcreggan man Archie Lindsay, a partner in architects Lancelot H.Ross & Lindsay and also a prolific cartoonist whose work appeared in several Scottish national newspapers. Jack Buchanan was born on April 2 1891, grew up in the town, and was a great friend of TV inventor John Logie Baird. He died on October 20 1957 at the age of 66.
