World War Two Specials1173 viewsThe town's Special Constabulary during the Second World War. Standing from left: George Loban, Hermitage janitor Tom Dunlop, railway official George Hastings and Henry Taylor, the West Clyde Street chemist; seated: school attendance officer Hugh Clark, Sergeant William McGillivray and coal merchant Robin Spy. The Sergeant came to Helensburgh in 1938 and served in the town until 1945. He later lived in Motherwell and Stirling, then Dunblane where he became deputy custodian of Dunblane Cathedral.
