Art collector Jim Smith from Blantyre owns the 24 x 18s ins charcoal and crayon drawing, and would love to know who the young lady subject was.

Kay lived there at Crimea (now Dalriada), Portincaple for 33 years and worked in a studio at 79 West Regent Street, Glasgow. The house belonged to his brother Alec, a shipping office manager. The name was chosen when they moved there in 1909 because his father was a Chief Petty Officer in the Royal Navy during the Crimean War, serving in the Black Sea area. James painted an elaborate mural of scenes from the Crimean War on the walls of the main entrance. Image date unknown.

East Clyde Street982 viewsThis 51 x 74 cms watercolour of East Clyde Street by John Carlaw (1850-1934) was used on the cover of the Helensburgh Heritage Trust book '200 Years of Helensburgh', published to mark the burgh's bicentenary. The artist, a friend of the late Victorian painters of the 'Glasgow School', lived at Seacliffe, 112 East Clyde Street, some 200 yards from where this was painted.

Luss village845 viewsPoet, artist and composer C.John Taylor (1915-98) painted this Luss village scene in oils, and it was used as a souvenir postcard to mark the village being used by Scottish Television as the location for the TV soap 'Take The High Road', which ran from 1980 to 2003. The Stockport-born artist lived on Seil Island near Oban for much of his life, and had a branch of his Highland Arts Exhibition business in Luss. Image circa 1990.

House at Rhu725 viewsSir James Guthrie (1859-1930), who lived much of his life at Rhu and Helensburgh and was the leader of the now famous Glasgow Boys, painted this picture entitled 'My house at Rhu'. His home for many years in the village was the family home of his wife, Helen Newton Whitelaw, who lived at her family home, a Rhu mansion called Rowmore, which has stunning grounds and views over the Gareloch. Despite the title, this appears to show only the entrance. Oil on canvas, 56 x 41 cms, it is in the collection of Fife Council and is at Kirkcaldy Art Gallery and Museum.

Helensburgh 1830857 viewsThis antique steel plate engraving on fine paper measures 6 x 9 inches and shows children playing on the burgh shore to the east of the Baths (later Queen's) Hotel. It was drawn by John Fleming, engraved by Joseph Swan and published by Joseph Swan in 1830 for ‘Select Views on the River Clyde’ by John M.Leighton.
