Royal Guide Colours1249 viewsHRH Princess Louise, the Dowager Duchess of Argyll, who lived the later years of her life in Rosneath Castle, presents new colours to the 1st Rosneath Peninsula Girl Guides in 1928. On another occasion she presented the Union Flag to the 1st Cove and Kilcreggan Guides, and it is the oldest in the County of Dunbartonshire and still used in parades. The Black 5 class of locomotive was introduced in 1934 by the London Midland and Scottish Railway. The class K-1 locomotives were ordered by the London and North Eastern Railway but were delivered after nationalisation in 1948; they were a modification of the K-4 class which had been introduced in 1938 specifically for use on the West Highland Line. 1246 viewsA previously unpublished picture from a fighter pilot's scrapbook of members of the RAF's 610 Squadron on summer visit to Arrochar from their base in Cheshire in 1938. In the background is a steamer at the now demolished Arrochar Pier, and the summit of the Cobbler mountain. Jean Clyde and Sir Harry Lauder1245 viewsStage star Jean Clyde from Helensburgh and her second husband Bill McQuaid with Sir Harry Lauder (left) taken in Skye, circa 1938 — three years after he announced his retirement, although he did entertain troops during the Second World War. Best remembered as the little tartan comic with the twisted walking stick, Sir Harry (August 4 1870—February 26 1950) was described by Sir Winston Churchill as "Scotland's greatest ever ambassadorâ€.
