As he had done 50 years earlier, retired naval architect Gerhard Schack, an octogenarian, raised a glass in tribute to the man who pioneered commercial steamships. This is a picture of the Comet model he made himself.

He also played the part of the interviewer, while Mr and Mrs Bell were played by Paul Kozinski and Janis Marshall. Musical accompaniment came from Alan Reid, who wrote several of the songs. At the time the picture was taken it was Kinnear Private Hotel, but it was also the first St Bride's School and in World War Two was used to billet officers working at the Marine Aircraft Experimental Establishment, RAF Helensburgh. Erecting aerial863 viewsThis image from the 1926 book 'Television: Seeing by Wireless', written by Alfred Dinsdale, A.M.I.R.E., shows John Logie Baird an assistant erecting the aerial at 2T.V., the world's first television broadcasting station at the offices of Television Limited in the heart of London. The receiving station was nine miles away at Harrow. A copy of the first edition of this book fetched over £10,000 at a Christies auction.
