First winner1032 viewsHelensburgh Lawn Tennis Club president Duncan Robson (right) and vice-president Donald Fullarton (left) present the Winifred McKenzie Salver to first winner Alec Forsyth. The salver was won by Mrs McKenzie at the club's golden jubilee celebrations, and at the centenary celebrations in 1984 she presented it to the club. The committee decided that it should be presented annually to someone who had given distinguished service to the club, on or off court.

New Year Swim 19662733 viewsBy tradition, girls were the first to enter the water at Helensburgh pier. The first man in was Helensburgh Swimming Club president Angus Trail, his 38th Ne'erday plunge. This was the first year that certificates were presented to the participants. Designed by local artist Gregor Ian Smith, they bore the proud inscription 'Many are cauld but few are frozen'.

Backstroke race1139 viewsThree contestants are seen battling it out in a Helensburgh Swimming Club backstroke race at the outdoor pool in this 1949 image. Built in 1928 as a gift from Provost Andrew Buchanan, beside the pier, the pool was replaced in 1976 by an indoor pool on an adjacent site, and a year later the outdoor pool was closed. It was demolished in 1996 and replaced by a childrens play area.
