NEW paintings by celebrated Rhu artist Mary Batchelor are on show at an exhibition of her work which has opened on the island of Islay.

The exhibition has been staged by Petra Pearce at her Outback Gallery at Sanaigmore, and it is Mary's first work since returning from a study visit to Collioure in France last year.

Petra told Mary: "Each day I walk past your paintings and think what a lucky woman I am! The paintings are glorious and well worth the wait.

"Your time in Collioure has enriched your painting to my mind, not at the foundations which were solid and strong already but in the subtle finishing which takes your work to the next level. Very exciting."

The paintings shown above are Big Blue Islay, Distant Atlantic, Blue Loch Gorm, Steadings at Dusk, Saligo Cliffs and Islay Summer. The exhibition will be open until the end of September.
