Exhibition of minister's art

AN ART exhibition featuring the work of a former Helensburgh minister was held over the weekend of September 23-24 at his former church.

The Rev David Reid was minister in Old and St. Andrew's Church, now Helensburgh Parish Church, from 1973-85, and a retrospective exhibition of his work was held in the Helensburgh Parish Church Halls.

Kayak challenge followed Comet route

A SUCCESSFUL charity sea kayak challenge last month followed the first part of the route of Henry Bell’s Comet 1 steamship from Port Glasgow to Blackmill Bay, Luing.

Douglas Hardie and his daughter Ione travelled 73.5 miles on Friday and Saturday July 21 and 22, despite a strong wind and occasional rain.

St Peter's Doors Open

 

ST PETER'S Seminary at Cardross took part in Doors Open Day 2017, with walking tours of the building on September 23 and 24. All tickets were sold out.

An NVA spokesman said: "The idea was that people walk through the abandoned chapel, find a graffiti artists’ paradise, and try to imagine what life might have been like for the young men who lived here during the 1960s.

Anderson Trust chairman dies suddenly

HELENSBURGH Heritage Trust records with deep regret the sudden death on Thursday July 27 of Bill Anderson, chairman of the Anderson (Local Collection) Trust.

Bill, a retired solicitor who lived in Bridge of Allan, was a nephew of Nance Anderson MBE JP who donated her art collection to the burgh. He collapsed and died while on a family holiday at Melfort.

Final 2017 Open Meeting

David-Bruce-wThe final 2017 Open Meeting will be held at Helensburgh Civic Centre at 7.30pm on November 29. David Bruce will talk about the forger and photographer Greatrex. All most welcome.
